Kripalu Bodywork

Kripalu Bodywork techniques are taught by the Kripalu center for yoga and health located in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts. This technique is essentially a deep tissue Swedish style massage technique with additional techniques that compliment and enhance the basic techniques. Kripalu Bodywork relies upon the intuition and experience of the well trained massage therapist to execute their proven techniques over the course of the 105 minute long therapy session. Designed to renew the body, mind and soul of the patient, the Kripalu Bodywork technique is useful in treating the aches and pains associated with tension, stress, chronic pain, and acute attacks that result in physical pain and discomfort.

Though often dismissed as trivial or easy to overcome, physical discomfort associated with tension and stress can cause a myriad of problems. Patients have reported that in addition to their muscular problems, digestive disorders, ulcers, indigestion, fatigue and depression are among their top concerns. Through the Kripalu Bodywork program, the massage therapist learns reflexology, yogic, and other approaches that make the Kripalu Bodywork method different from other massage therapy techniques. The results may seem miraculous or unbelieveable to some patients who never connected their unhealthy lifestyle and accumulated tension to their current medical symptoms which they had before hand treated individually.

Massage therapists, of all medical health and pain management experts available, know full well that the medicines and pharmaceuticals that patients ingest merely mask the problem and provide temporary (and diminishing) relief in the best of cases. Additionally, massage therapists also understand that the side effects of these medicines can be as bad, or worse, than the symptoms they are intended to treat; addiction, weight gain, sleeplessness, rashes, or “strange sensations” can accompany even the most tested drug on the market. Kripalu Bodywork approaches the problem from a different angle and treats the body as a whole, not as a collection of symptoms which can simply be attacked one at a time.

The instruction in basic Kripalu Bodywork techniques starts with a 170 hour foundational technique class. Massage therapists learn the intuitive healing touch of established Kripalu Bodywork massage therapists as well as technical knowledge in the application of reflexology and other traditional healing methods in the Kripalu Bodywork method. With the basic training provided by the Essentials of Kripalu Bodywork classes, the massage therapist begins to attune themselves to the energies and life force of their patients which enables them to more effectively treat their clients’ conditions and afflictions.

The Essentials of Kripalu Bodywork techniques are then built upon by the more advanced massage training. Encompassing 340 additional hours of instruction (for a total of 500 hours of instruction in the Kripalu Bodywork technique) the advanced massage techniques assist in refining the massage therapists techniques and to give them a finer, keener sense of the life force and energies of their clients. Yogic techniques, breathing techniques, intuitive awareness, and focused attention are all reinforced in the techniques taught at the Kripalu Bodywork advanced technique instruction classes. The result is a well-qualified and experienced massage therapist who can assist clients in the United States and abroad.
